About Dr. Alakbarli

Dr. Javid Alakbarli (Dr. J) was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, and earned his medical degree with honors from Istanbul University–Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 2015. After a research fellowship at Harvard University’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, he completed his residency in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2019. He then completed fellowships in cardiology, endovascular medicine, and interventional cardiology at the Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, finishing in 2023. During his cardiology fellowship, he served as Chief Fellow.

He is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and adult comprehensive echocardiography, and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). Fluent in five languages—English, Russian, Turkish, Azerbaijani, and German—he brings a broad perspective to patient care.

His clinical interests include general and preventative cardiology, complex coronary and peripheral interventions, and structural heart disease. He performs coronary interventions (including complex CTO PCI), peripheral interventions for peripheral artery disease and critical limb ischemia, carotid artery stenting, venous interventions, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). He also provides mechanical circulatory support for patients in cardiogenic shock.

Dr. Alakbarli practiced interventional cardiology at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic before joining Texas Heart & Vascular Specialists in 2026. He sees patients at Smith Tower in the Texas Medical Center and at the Upper Kirby / River Oaks clinic. He maintains hospital privileges at Houston Methodist Hospital, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, and Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Dr. Alakbarli (Dr. J) believes the best care is tailored to each patient’s needs and preferences. In his clinic, he takes time to understand not only the medical problem but also the patient’s circumstances, lifestyle, and goals, so the treatment plan is both effective and realistic. He prioritizes clear explanations without jargon and makes sure patients have time to ask questions.
